Repaving works: Piazza Garibaldi

From Monday 25 May 2026, repaving works begin on the historic stone surface of Piazza Garibaldi, the first lot of the rehabilitation project covering the monumental heart of the historic centre.
Expected duration: 7-8 weeks. Estimated completion by 15 July 2026.
Traffic changes:
- The square is closed to all vehicle traffic throughout the works.
- Parking in the square is suspended (15 spaces).
- Through traffic is diverted onto Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Cammilleri.
Pedestrian access: maintained on all working days through protected corridors. Access to all shops and homes facing the square is preserved.
Casazza 2027: the works are timed to avoid any interference with Holy Week 2027. The square will be handed back to the town over nine months before the event.
The project recovers the historic stone surface using local lithic materials selected in agreement with the Enna Superintendency. The intervention is co-funded under the PNRR — Historic Villages Line.

From 16 June to 13 September 2026 the summer schedule of the municipal offices is in force. Anagrafe (registry) services also available on Saturday mornings.

From 16 June to 13 September 2026 the summer schedule of the municipal offices is in force. The change does not affect essential services (Anagrafe, Local Police, Civil Status) but shortens the afternoon window by one hour for most offices.
Summer hours (16 June - 13 September 2026):
- Morning: Monday-Friday 8:30-13:00
- Afternoon: Tuesday and Thursday 15:00-17:30 (reduced from regular hours)
- Saturday morning: 9:00-12:00 — Anagrafe (registry), Civil Status, Protocol only
Services keeping regular hours:
- Local Police (continuous 8:00-20:00)
- Social emergency line (toll-free 800 234 567, 24/7)
- Water service (fault reports +39 0935 638400, 24/7)
Online booking: to reduce waiting times, booking an appointment via the Municipality’s “Online Counter” portal is recommended (access with SPID, CIE or CNS).
The regular winter schedule resumes on Monday 14 September 2026.

Summer shuttle Nicosia–Catania Central Station: from 15 June
From 15 June to 15 September 2026, daily shuttle service Nicosia–Catania Central Station. Four runs a day, booking recommended. Fares published on the Municipality's official channels.

From 15 June to 15 September 2026 the summer shuttle from Nicosia to Catania Central Station is in service — a pilot project run jointly by the Municipality of Nicosia and the Pro Loco, designed to make arrival easier for visitors from outside the region and to support residents’ connections.
Daily runs (including holidays):
- Nicosia → Catania: 6:00, 10:30, 14:00, 17:30
- Catania → Nicosia: 8:30, 13:00, 16:30, 20:00
Journey time: about 1 hour 45 minutes, with intermediate stops at Sperlinga, Gagliano Castelferrato and Regalbuto.
Fares: published on the Municipality of Nicosia’s official channels and on the Tourism Office website when the service opens. Reduced fares are available for under 12 and over 65, and a monthly resident pass is offered.
Booking:
- Recommended for all runs, mandatory on the 6:00 outbound and the 20:00 return (these are lower-capacity runs for early departures and late returns).
- Book online on the Municipality website (“Transport” section) or by phone at the Tourism Office (+39 0935 638700).
Departure/arrival in Nicosia: Piazza Garibaldi, on the Corso Vittorio Emanuele side (dedicated stop). Departure/arrival in Catania: east side of Central Station, in front of the main exit.
The service is on pilot status: continuation in the 2027 season will depend on usage data collected over the summer of 2026.
