Everything you need to know

Plan your trip

Nicosia sits 700 metres above the Nebrodi, halfway between Palermo and Catania. Reachable comfortably by car, less so by train, hardly at all without planning.

How to get there

By car

Nicosia sits on the SS117, the panoramic road between Cefalù and Gela. From Palermo: A19 motorway to Caltanissetta, then SS117 north (~2h 15'). From Catania: A19 to Enna, then SS117 (~1h 30'). From Cefalù: SS113 + SS117 (~1h 30'). Free parking in the historic centre outside event days.

By train + transfer

The usable stations are Catania Centrale and Palermo Centrale. From there, partner NCC services are available (rates and bookings directly with the operator). Event shuttles (White Night, Casazza) serve the four surrounding provinces.

By plane

Useful airports: Catania Fontanarossa (1h 30' by car) or Palermo Falcone-Borsellino (2h 15'). Car rental recommended — Nicosia is hard to reach without your own vehicle.

By motorbike

The SS117 is one of Sicily's best two-wheel roads. Dedicated pit stop at the 24 Baroni Brewery with secure parking.

What is the language spoken?

Italian. The site is bilingual Italian + English. Main operators (Albereto, 24 Baroni, municipal info point) speak English. French and German come in phase 2.

Is it accessible for those with reduced mobility?

The historic centre has uphill grades and stairways. The Cathedral is accessible from the Piazza Garibaldi entrance. The Museum of the Mountain is fully accessible. The Castle requires medium-high mobility. Contact us for specific needs.

Can I pay by card?

Cards are accepted at all main operators (restaurants, B&Bs, Albereto, 24 Baroni). For the summer sagre markets and small purchases, cash is better.

Do I need to book?

Experiences (dairy, brewery, Tavolo dei Baroni, trail) are booking-only. Mass events (Casazza, White Night, Beer Festival) require a ticket. The historic centre and self-guided walks are free.

Yes in the historic centre, at agriturismi (check individually) and on trails (on leash where indicated). Not allowed inside the Cathedral, Museum and Castle. Water and bowls available at some partner restaurants.
