Saint Felix of Nicosia

Saint Felix of Nicosia (born Giacomo Amoroso, 1715-1787) is one of the most beloved Sicilian Capuchin saints. A lay brother, he dedicated his life to serving the poor and to begging on behalf of his community. Canonised in 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI, his memory is celebrated on 31 May.

His cult remains strong in Nicosia. The community of the Friars Minor Capuchins keeps the relics in the friary and organises every year a popular feast that crosses the historic centre.

The San Felice trail

The Friars Minor Capuchins of Nicosia have, over the years, structured an existing pilgrimage route linking significant sites in Saint Felix’s life: the friary in Nicosia, the Sanctuary of Carmelo, rural hermitages, transhumance paths across the Nebrodi.

This institutional website does not appropriate the San Felice trail as a standalone tourism product: it describes it as an existing route organised by the Capuchins, with a referral to the religious community for operational information (dates, hospitality, registration).

If you are a pilgrim interested in walking the trail, we suggest contacting:

  • the Capuchin Friary of Nicosia for the annual programme;
  • the Pro Loco of Nicosia for logistics (accommodation, transfers, luggage);
  • the Tourism Office for integrated stay packages.

The friary visit

The friary is open during worship hours. The church holds sacred art of value. For guided visits dedicated to Saint Felix, please contact the friars directly through the parish channels.

During the Feast of Saint Felix on 31 May, the friary becomes the heart of a procession that involves the entire historic centre.

A note of respect

The San Felice trail is not a tourist trek: it is a pilgrimage. Those who walk it do so in a spirit the religious community is used to accompanying. Vivi Nicosia gladly defers to the Capuchins for any information that calls for a human conversation, not a booking click.
