31 May 2027

On 31 May Nicosia celebrates its saint. The vara of San Felice leaves the Capuchin Sanctuary and is carried shoulder-high through the streets of the historic centre, among confraternities and devotees.

The city’s saint

San Felice da Nicosia — born Filippo Giacomo Amoruso — is the Capuchin friar from Nicosia canonised in 2005, co-patron of the city. His feast falls on 31 May.

The procession

The central moment is when the vara leaves the Sanctuary of the Capuchin friary: the saint is carried shoulder-high through the streets of the historic centre, accompanied by the confraternities, the friars and the devotees, passing the places of his life, among them his birthplace.

Good to know

  • The procession is watched from the street, with no tickets.
  • The liturgical programme and times are published by the Capuchin Friars Minor of Nicosia on the community’s channels.
  • The 31 May feast is a separate thing from the Cammino di San Felice, the multi-day walk held in August, and from the Horseback Pilgrimage held in July.
